It starts at the hospital! The baby scratches itself with those thin, long finger nails. They give you a nail file, which doesn't really work, and then suddenly.........tiny clippers appear from somewhere. Tiny little nail clippers that are made for tiny baby hands (is baby supposed to use them?). They are horrible! You risk clipping more than the nail by using them. With scissors you have more "feel" and aim. If you are still shaky about cutting baby's nails, the first couple of weeks, put some socks on baby's hands to prevent scratching. Sadie, 5 months, held on to the scissors (with the protective cover on) for a few pictures but promises not to play with them when mom is not around!
